Yes but Steve.....legacy DOS code also probably has these proglems too...
1) Reference to memory at 40:0 to get at the old bios supported table of COM port base addresses. No I/O address could be put here to support a USB device. 2) ROM BIOS access to the COMM ports. Certainly there is no ROM BIOS support in machines for USB based COMM poorts. (At least not yet as I know it). 3) The DOS code has direct I/O port code in it support the COMM port by application code. Originally intended for speed and/or interrupt access these programs certainly are not compatible with USB COMM ports. ....So I think that the enumerations starting at COM5: are the least of the problems.
