Foolish Foolish guys.....There are ready made chips to read / write floppy disks in formats that are completely PC compatible. That is if you even want to use a floppy disk. Trying to mess with this is nuts.
George: If I was interviewing to hire a software developer I would be way more impressed with the candidate that told me his school project was implementing a FAT32 file system on a compact flash card using an 8051 derivative rather than reading the RAW data off a floppy disk drive; particularly when the cost of microcontroller parts and software development will end up costing more than an off the shelf controller.
