Are there any low-cost TQFP-44 to DIL-40 adapters (8051 pinout) available?

I have just received some samples from Dallas. I requested any of the DIL versions, but for some reason the chose to send me TQFP chips instead...

Any advice on how to solder TQFP chips without damaging both the PCB and the chips?

BTW, I ordered samples of two different chips, but I have received only one. Does that mean the second chip will arrive later or never?
