Mark/Space ratio varies from country to country.

Also apparently the terminology varies. In the U.S.A. and elsewhere, when referring to pulse dialing, the terms "make" and "break" are used, whereas "mark" and "space" refer to voltage levels on a (typically) RS-232 interface.
