Maybe initialization is wrong (about 8 first instructions)

If LCD is black (all dots are active) you must change contrast divider.

Maybe this module need negative voltage on contrast pin.

If it's software error - you can debug your program and view all diagrams by voltmeter (or scope) and compare with diagrams written in datasheet.
