#47329 - RE: Oscilloscope again
Responding to: ???'s previous message
You are absolutely right, Erik. But unfortunately reliability is not a question of price. We had to struggle with a very expensive Hitachi scope, many years ago. When displaying signal using 'magnify' option there was a strange jitter, which we first considered as to be part of signal. Expensive scope couldn't be the reason for that, we thought. It took us two weeks for finding out, that this jitter was completely caused by the scope itself!

Other point: The faster the scope, the higher the probability that you see a lot of shit (artefacts) on screen, having absolutely nothing to do with your signal. Measuring in high frequency electronics is always some sort of sience. And you must always be aware that you will never see reality on your screen, but always some very subjective 'point of view'. The best way to handle this situation is to have more than only one scope for measuring and analyzing. It's very interesting to see how distinguished your reading and interpreting then becomes.

Doing electronics without ALWAYS making plausibility checks results very quickly in a completely wrong understanding from what's going on. I think that the more experienced forum members exactly know, what I mean...

Bye,
Kai
