simulators, i used to test code on simulators as far as possible.then when confidant it will work i used to make prototype PCBs. now the real testing begins. as AT series is many time programmble sacrifise one cheap chip to Evaluation and correct the program again and again until it works in the same way it was conceived to.

but may be its not a good tech. may be goodd is ECHO.
