It seems to me that Xtreme programming is just a description of how programmers have worked anyway. You follow the rules that make sense and don't follow the rules that don't make sense. In that respect, I do think that we all are probably "Xtreme programmers" already. We all work to meet the customer's requirements and meet their deadlines. It seems to me that when little or no effort is put into defining what the customer wants and understanding their needs is when we fall into the trap of trial and error programming and hence missed deadlines.
