#53695 - My thoughts on the matter Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Personally, I am in favor of outright *deleting* any thread that is initiated, asks a question, but is pretty much missing obviously necessary information that we would need to to formulate a worthwhile reply.
Steve and I currently have the means to easily delete any thread and have the original poster notified via email that their post was deleted because the question was not specific enough or lacked sufficient information. I think we've used it sparingly, but if everyone thinks these kind of "post and run" things are becoming too common we can certainly become more aggressive with this option. If we go with this approach (deleting threads that have a question that can't be answered because of a complete lack of details) then I would also ask that everyone completely refrain from responding to such questions. Often, we get these threads that should be deleted because the poster didn't bother to make half an effort to give us all the information we need... but we end up *not* deleting it because others have already responded with posts that may or may not answer the persons' question, but are useful nonetheless and we are hesitant to delete a thread that has valuable content--even if it the valuable content isn't what the original question had in mind.
