That's a good question! I understood that the long-term accuracy of mains frequency was actually extremely good -although it could vary a fair bit in the sort term. Is this still true? How does it compare to a bog-standard processor crystal? Andy, standard quartz oscillator shows about +-100ppm deviation. Sometimes a bit more. Over 24 hours this makes about +-10sec. Mains frequency is synchronized with atomic clocks. So, theoretically deviation is zero. But at certain times a day mains net can be switched to different sources. Then, some 100msec can be lost...
