I'm having some problems and I suspect it's my understanding of how this MOSFET is supposed to work. Hoping I can get some advice.

I have an LPC932 which is a 3.3v device. Then I have this NDT453N (http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/ND/NDT453N.pdf).

The GATE pin is connected to an LPC932 port pin configured as "push-pull". The DRAIN pin is connected to a 9 volt battery. The SOURCE pin is currently not connected to anything (for testing purpose).

So, when I output a 1 on this GATE pin, the MOSFET's SOURCE pin should equal the same voltage as the DRAIN. And when I output 0 on the GATE, the MOSFET's SOURCE should be at 0 volts.

When I output a 0, the MOSFETS source is indeed at 0 volts. However, when I output a 1 (3.3v), I measure 3.3 volts at the gate, but the source measures about 1.3 volts (instead of 9 volts).

Am I doing something obviously wrong here?
