For many industrial tasks, a PLC is the right way to go. There are specialises tasks though, even in industrial control, where there are many analogue processes that a dedicated computer may well be a better method.
A process engineer would be crazy to "roll their own" industrial process controller - just but it off the shelf, but a product developer looking to exploit a new niche would figure things differently. Steve |
