Does IMHO and BTW also qualify as SMS abbreviations or are they acceptable?
I do not want sound preachy or defensive but: Yes we do overuse SMS acronyms. All Indian languages are phonetic, so English is a real challenge, more so, since it is not normally spoken at home. SMS abbreviations are a way to avoid making spelling mistakes(!) or in some cases make those words phonetic(!!).
On the other hand, having guided students for so many years, I find that a good grasp of the language helps in understanding datasheets better. So fellow country (wo)men, irrespective of any forum, till datasheets and application notes are written in SMS, use english.
