The Rx2xx is a different device to the Rx2Hxx and therefore they can behave/function differently. If you are using the Rx2xx then you must select the correct device in Flash Magic because the Flash blocks are different and the feature set is different. I don't think that you can damage the device because you selected the wrong one (but take note of the warning! There are other combinations of two devices where if you select the wrong one you will cause problems!).

The Rx2xx has an errata sheet that deals with a reset issue, an issue that I don't believe the Rx2Hxx suffers from. You should take a look at that and see if it affects your design. A supervisor is always recommended.

A common reason for only being able to program a Philips device successfully once:

The devices come from the factory with the status bit/byte set. Therefore the device powers up into ISP mode. After you have programmed it for the first time and you try to enter ISP mode again using the hardware method, it is only then that you are trying the hardware entry method for the first time. So, this indicates a problem with getting the device into ISP mode - something that you didn't really test the first time, although you thought you were. :)

The Rx2Hxx from the factory runs at 6 clocks/cycle. The Rx2xx from the factory runs at 12 clocks/cycle. Therefore "out of the box" the Rx2xx might not be able to autobaud with Flash Magic as fast as an Rx2Hxx with the same crystal frequency. Therefore try reducing the baud rate.

With all these differences you cannot view Flash Magic as the only thing that has changed when you switched devices. They may have similar part names but they have quite a few differences...
