#63096 - reliability vs cost |
Lately there has been posts
"not all solder joints are good" "I need to write a repair manual" "do I need to protect the inputs" and more of the kind. I somehow get the impression that a lot of projects get made to drive cost to the very bottom with no concern for reliability. I just got a quote for some cheap switching power supplies and the quote stated "high reliability with an MTBF of 2.6 Million hours which correspond to about 300 years. That indicates that competetive equipment can be made reliable. I would like to know if anyone can come up with a valid excuse for not making projects that "do not break". It is totally irresponsible to manufacture equipment with the attitude "OK, some will break - so what" If you can not make a reliable piece of equipment at the accepted cost or below, PLEASE say no Comments solicited Erik |
