Assembler is excellent when you are in need of tight control of resources and timing

I think that the main advantage of C is it's flexibility and the fact that all (or almost) processors have a C compiler.

so it can help when you start working with a new CPU. is easier to cope in C than in a new assembler.

and if needed use a mix if them... there is no "perfect" language, each problem has its own solution and a language appropriated for one task may be not so good in other.
