Is that 3.5 mhz or 3.5 Mhz?

It is 3.5Mhz (as in megahertz 3500000).

Still wrong!

I've said this all before, so pay attention at the back!

One more time now:

When an SI unit is named after a person, its symbol has an Uppercase initial, but the full names of the units are entirely lowercase; thus:

Hz is the symbol for hertz, the SI unit of frequency, named after Hertz;
A is the symbol for ampere (or "amp"), the SI unit of current, named after Ampere;
V is the symbol for volt, the SI unit of voltage(!), named after Volta;
H is the symbol for henry, the SI unit of inductance, named after Henry;
S is the symbol for siemens, the SI unit of conductance, named after Siemens;
s is the symbol for second, the SI unit of time - not named after anyone;
m is the symbol for metre, the SI unit of length - not named after anyone;
g is the symbol for gramme, the SI unit of mass - not named after anyone;

(note particular emphasis on the lowerase 's' for second as this is the commonest error here!)

ive certainly used a watch crystal running at 32Khz on one project.

I dunno if that was deliberate, but note that 32KHz = 32768Hz = 32.768kHz

The SI multipliers all go in thousands/thousandths (multiples of 10+3/10-3); they include:

T = Tera = 10+9
M = Mega = 10+6
k = kilo = 10+3
m = milli = 10-3
u = micro = 10-6
n = nano = 10-9
p = pico = 10-12
f = femto = 10-15

Note particularly that the SI multiplier for 1000 (103) is a lowercase 'k'

The Uppercase 'K' as a multiplier was introduced by digital computer people to mean 1024 (210)

It's easy to remember: Big 'K' (1024) is greater than little 'k' (1000)!
