This sure sounds like a homework question.

The thing I am puzzled about is how much effort you put into trying to trick us into giving you the answer.

This question is probably the most asked of all the 8051 type of questions. If you searched the bible it would have screamed at you.

To think the 74HC14 is a waste of hardware and board space is a big mistake. Even you are only using one of six it still is worth keeping because of what it is doing for you which is eliminating noise.
