#70856 - RE: Memories Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Ashoka,
SRAM (Static RAM) is easier to interface to the 8051/52 family simply because there is no hardware provision on the 8051/52 to run DRAMs, (i.e. MMU(memory management unit),etc.) you would have to have peripheral chips to provide the refresh and MMU tasks. SRAMs do not need this circuitry. Interfacing a 8051/52 to DRAM can be done, but as Erik points out why would you want to? You would be wasting most of the DRAMs address space(the smallest ones are probably 1Mbyte and even that size may becoming obsolete). SRAMs are generally in kByte size range and larger whereas the DRAMs are in the MByte range and larger and require specialized hardware to run them. Hope this answers your question. Jacob |
