We don't want you to leave, Kai, but the issue here isn't whether or not people are unfriendly to newbies. The issue is whether or not people are willing to do other people's work.

There is a difference between a newbie (or anyone) explaining what they've done, what they tried, and what didn't work and then asking for some suggestions or help and that same person simply saying in a single sentence "How do I do this?" The first demonstrates the person has made a serious effort and spent some time on it before asking others in the forum to spend their time on it. The second question is very vague, doesn't give us any idea what the person has already tried, keeps us guessing as to how to answer because we don't have enough information, and could just be that we're doing someone's homework.

I believe that there are many people here that are very willing to help newbies that take the time to do a little research first, try some things, and then post a well-written message that explains what they've tried to do, their results, and ask for help. People here are less tolerant of people that post a 1 or 2-line message asking for help without giving the forum members any idea what they've already tried, what their results were, and aren't even willing to take the time to put together an informative post on which others may base their answers.
