#71847 - RE: Don\\\\\\\'t feel alone, because other feel sa
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Dear Friends:
Hello, I feel forum atmosphere has become much calmer since craig posted stop flaming message . Users come to this site from around the world to learn something about 8052. without newbies and less experienced users this forum would be much abandoned. experienced users rarely post queries or 8051 related materials originally but most of the posts are posted by newbies and less experienced users. sometimes newbies and less experienced users bring an interesting subject to attention of more experienced users that causes a very fruitful discussion. I have about two years experience of teaching(in a non electronic related science). I've learned from that short experience that if someone wants to help someone to learn something, it is not enough to provide only information but the teacher should guide the student in a friendly way toward the information. If teacher provide the student the pure needed polished information in bad temper the student learns amazingly slow, but if the teacher only guide the student(for example a little tip) in a friendly manner, the student learns amazingly fast (at least worked in my classes).
But one thing that I want to emphasis is that almost all users post with the intention to help the original poster but sometimes they don't pay attention that if they don't post a flame, they helped the original poster more(ignoring the poster help him/her more rather than flaming or insulting him/her).
Another thing, this forum expects that posters to use their real name. but someone that enters the forum for the first time and see how some users are flamed or even insulted because of their queries, he or she may afraid to use his/her real name because he/she fears that something similar may happen to him/her. Please consider that some of these people are very prestigious and respected members of their community. They fear that their wife/husband, friends, students, teachers, colleagues come to this site and see how they are humiliated and insulted. Even if they are a young, poor student, they are proud and they have girlfriends/boyfriends that may come to this site. Some users may have really no bad intention and they think that if someone say, the words that they are going to say to a poor user, to them; they will not be insulted. But please consider different cultures/different people have different sensitivities. So please think twice before say anything that might have a potential to break someone's heart in a public place. Please do not say anything that may (just may) lower or damage someone's personality in public opinion in a public place. if a user feels strong urge to say something to another user that has a potential to damage his/her personality please use his/her Email not the public forum. and please consider that if a user flame/insult another user the other user may come back and insult the original flamer and the result would be the thread will go off topic and finally will be closed by moderator. Even if the insulted person do not come back to respond, for example because he/she is flamed by a respected member of the forum, the flamer damages himself/herself in public opinion ( recent addition of user karma help users to assess their popularity). If someone violated the forum rules seriously please do not disclose his/her faults publicly, just post a message to moderator/administrator and ask them to investigate. If the fault was serious the moderator/administrator will warn the user( not publicly ) and if he/she didn't pay attention the administrator will void the account or block his/her access forever. many faulty users prefer they never come to this site rather than something that disturb their public image is said about them publicly in INTERNET(where most people of the world have potential to read that).
A while ago I was working on an efficient PID algorithm for thermal control( thank to the help of this forum I developed a very efficient code that works perfectly fine now). When I searched this forum I was amazed by number of hits but when I read messages It was rather funny, because most of the hits was contained the word stupid.
I really think flaming and insulting is a very serious problem and should be stopped.
I am not talking about this thread, I'm talking generally. I don't think something disrespectful has happened in this thread. I'm talking generally.

As I said, I truly think that many users that flame other users have no bad intention, sometimes they do not realize that what they are going to say might hurt someone beyond their perception. Sometimes they are bored as there is no interesting post in the forum for a long time and then suddenly a poor newbie comes with a rather silly query. Bingo! they flame the poor user to change the mood of the forum and have a little good time. Sometimes they don't use right words because of their poor English.
If a user wants to say something funny or have a good time it is not absolutely necessary to humiliate a poor user. It is possible to find interesting materials related to the subject from internet and post a link to that. in this way not only no one was hurt, but also members will appreciate the talent of the poster and the post is not off-topic too. :-)
As in this very excellent and funny example posted by one of the most respected members of the forum recently.

My Suggestions:

1- Some user complain that newbies do not read FAQ first, or they don't search the forum or internet before they ask the question.
These users are absolutely right. But please consider that just because experienced users know the rules of this forum very well, it doesn't necessarily mean that a newcomer should know that as well. Some of them come to this forum for the first time or after long periods of time so they are not familiar with the atmosphere of this site and they don't think that is absolutely necessary to read FAQ or search the site(FAQ and search in many internet sites don't return useful information but of course certainly they return very useful information in this particular site).

One way to overcome this difficulty is to prepare some prewritten answers to FAQ. This answers should have been written very politely and show the original poster where he/she can find answers. users that want to answer to that user may just insert a link to that page ( or even some sort of abbreviations may be defined for the system to ease the use of prewritten answers)

For example:
A user asks a silly question:
What pin EA dose in AT89S52 ?

The experienced user may reply
www.8052.com/faq/readdatasheet.phtml?1=AT89S52&Atmel

and in that page it is explained

Information you need can be found in datasheet of ....
To download the datasheet you can go to manufacturer site....
Read the datasheet very carefully. If you couldn't find the answer .
Post your questions with detail.
For more information please read FAQ.htm
Please do not forget to search the forum first and google second before posting again.

In this way both valuable time of posters are saved and there is no room for flaming.
If the user repeated the question he/she will be ignored or will be given the same answer(until he/she understands and follow instructions).

As I said forum atmosphere is much better now but it can still be better.

2- I see News of the site is rarely updated. If users(or at least some user as correspondents of 8052) could post news. maybe we would see more updated interesting news.

Best Wishes
Reza Fallahati
