I suggest not to use ALE to reset the supervisor chip.

First of all....If you want a true watch dog function that generates a reset when the watch dog times out then arrange to have a port pin which the software toggles from time to time that re-triggers the external watch dog.

Second in consideration....If you really want to avoid having to deal with an external watch dog then find a supervisor chip that omits the watch dog function.

I would consider the act of connecting ALE to the watch dog timer re-trigger pin a crude attempt at trying to avoid use of the watch dog. It is false thinking to believe that the use of ALE in this way is useful. If anything it more than useless!
