This is not exactly my specialist subject but as I understand it the smaller the 'technology' used in the manufacturing of CPUs (eg Pentiums) the more susceptible the chips are. It may even be the case that something like an 8051 is completely immune. I'll try and find a reference.
some of the newer, faster '51 derivatives are made with a lot finer masks than the old steam driven versions.
