Citing the same manual, just a few lines earlier. "The prescaler bits, PS0, PS1 and PS2 in SFR WMCON are used to set the periods of the Watchdog Timer from 16 to 2048 ms."

True, 8ms sounds like a really excessive time for an interrupt to take... :)
