------------------------------- I have talked to the Nichicon... Series RU/RY: 8 weeks Series VR/VZ: 2 weeks - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Thanks again Sunny, Wow! I should open an office where you live. :) Even if I imported them into the US, it shouldn't take that many extra weeks (though I better check with my customs broker to make sure). I imported some South African iButton stuff recently and it didn't take more than a week to process ONCE they finally contacted us. Do you there(?) buy direct from Nichicon or through a distributor? Maybe I should look for an offshore Nichicon distributor? 18 weeks versus 8 weeks ======================= I got the same results from two USA distributors and I think that might be the problem. A local (Texas) sales representative phoned Nichicon and reported to me: They didn't think they made a RU/RY until they found it in the Year 2000 catalog (Maybe Nichicon-USA isn't highly motivated?) They suggested substituting VR/VZ that are available (not enough ripple current). They said the RU/RY would be 16-18 weeks. Last night a 3:00am (I must be working Hawaiian Timezone in Texas...hehehe) I requested an online quote. The email I got this morning said they'd sell the RU at $0.70 each in 1,000 quantity but it would be 20 weeks. I've noticed that the component distribution companies in the US are going through a bad transition. They appear only to buy inventory for components used in major OEM lines. Most parts show no inventory. A distributor without inventory is not a distributor in my book... sounds like they think they're arbitragers. The only good news is the trend for component manufacturers to sell direct online. I'm continuing to compile a document listing all feasible components for this use. I'll then look for availability. My power supply specifies +12V to +48V but we have to do several things to increase reliability due to bad supply voltages from our customers. I have a SMBJ48A for protection but I'm not too happy with their specification. Their trip voltage spec is too loose. But no one has component stock on SMBJ48As anyway even though I know of about fur manufacturers. Component Procurement is tougher than tax paperwork. :) aka j |
