If you can live with "slow" I/O why the heck would you use a microcontroller, the only reason to choose a microcontroller over a microprocessor is fast I/O.


There are many tasks where IO speed is irrevelant but still a microcontroller is a better choice over a microprocessor. In case of '51, a multitasking RTOS, although possible, is not one of them.
