#76858 - RE: DS1232 & ESD Responding to: ???'s previous message |
When a device as DS1232 does not warns about ESD should i asume it is very sensitive or i can handle with my bare hands
The ESD verbage in the AD datasheet is valid for ANY CMOS chip. However, in my humble opinion, that is mainly "lawsuit protection". I wear antistatic shoes as a precaution (the people in production is given a pair each year by the company) and we have not blown any chips by touch. So, take precautions, but do not be paranoid. A simple way is to touch anything the chip is to touch before you touch the chip, and STAY OFF THE NYLON CARPET. Another issue is that once a chip is in the circuit it is many times less likely to 'see' ESD, Since the 1232 will not have any off the board wires, I would not worry. Now another issue ALL supervisors are designed to be noise sensitive (if they were less sensitive than the uC what good would they be) so you must solder a 100nF cap directly between the Vcc and Gnd pins on the chip.
