Besides that, to encourage people to post more often, I think the karma score should have limited lifetime. Say - every karma point expires after 3 or 6 months. I was thinking of that, too. My thought was it would only apply to members with a karma score above a certain level--say, 10. So the system would never expire anyone's karma score below 10. And perhaps it would only expire if the user hadn't received an additional positive score in the last month or so. That way as long as the person keeps posting good messages that get positive scores the karma doesn't expire--but if the person stops posting or stops getting good scores on his messages then the score would slowly erode down to 10.
