I can't understand Atmel and others policy. This is just a hunch, but I wonder if Atmel's response might've been different if you'd asked for an AVR...? The thing is, PIC is single-sourced from Microchip - so if they can get you hooked on PIC, they've got you hooked on Microchip. 8051s, on the other hand, are available from just about every semiconductor manufacturer and his dog - so they have no real guarantee that you'll stick with Atmel 8051s for your next project. But if they could get you hooked on AVR... Here endeth the Conspiracy Theory! |
