Thanks for your input, Kai. Very useful.

To control a micro only by a simple cable, without any buffer at micro side is just ridiculous.


As I mentioned in my previous post my design has evolved somewhat. One of those evolutions was that mine does include a buffer. I used the SP89 schematic mostly as reference to determine where they were connecting each line on the parallel port and used this design as inspiration regarding the buffer.

The 100 ohm resistor was still necessary, though, and with this latter design it is specifically indicated in the schematic.
