#78654 - Battery - the limiting issue.. Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Dear James,
Yes I did convert a tractor to a remote controlled one. But there were major differences : - Battery was used only for starting and headlamps and horn as in a usual tractor. - Traction was by the regular diesel engine. - Control was within line of sight, thus avoiding complicated safety and navigation protocols. However for your case, both Joseph and Terry have given some excellent scratch pad data on the required power. Looks not feasible unless you are willing to tap on state-of-art batteries with a very favuorable power:weight ratio -and the bad news is they don't come 'cheap'. And what's wrong with a normal diesel engine powered tractor ? Environmental issues ? I do agree that the controls of an all electric tractor is easy to adapt for remote control. (i am thinking autonomous control, and cameras with RF links, for multiple tractors with one operator, and a supervisory cutoff ...) Ain't it look like too much of technology to mow a field ;=) Raghu |
