1) The precision of the DS2438 is enough for the specs of original poster. What is wrong?

absolutely nothing wrong, I did NOT say do not use ... just wanted to point out that if a different digital temp sensor was "available in the area" (a problem posted very often here) the tolerance on the temp was probaly tighter than needed for his app.
