#81712 - RE: DC Offset issue - Kai

So would I benefit by using a differntial input stage in my DPM to avoid the DC offset ?

This cannot easily be answered. It depends on actual internal circuitry of ADAM_3016 and on sort of interference which causes the trouble. But it's worth to be tested.

...can you please revert based on the now furnished details, if anything else can be tried out ?

It's very difficult to estimate what's actually happening in your application. Interference can penetrate the ADAM_3016 not only from output side, but also from 24V supply side, and of course from input side. I could imagine, that the strain gauge picks up some ground noise from the place where the strain gauge is mounted on. The best methode would be to connect input signal ground to the piece of metal, where the strain gauge is mounted on, either directly or by the help of a capacitor of about 10nF, or to put the strain gauge (including the cable, of course!) entirely into a Faraday shield and to connect input signal ground to this Faraday shield. But how, if input signal ground isn't available at ADAM_3016? This is really difficult! Maybe 'EXCI-' terminal is directly connected to input signal ground? One had to open the ADAM_3016 to check this.

Of course, the input lines would also benefit from filtering, if the DC offset is caused by demodulation effects at input stage. Then you could connect the same components at input, means 1nF capacitors referenced to input signal ground and the soft ferrite common mode choke. But it's difficult to estimate whether this really helps.

It's the very best first to localize the origin of trouble. So, you could exchange the faulty ADAM_3016 by a new and fresh one. Can you still observe this DC offset, then?

But maybe, the troublemaking ADAM_3016 only indicates, that there's a grounding mistake somewhere else, maybe at the 15kW drive stage?

Good luck,
Kai
