This is one of many scenarios where small parts of code could be dynamically loaded and run on an embedded application.


Wouldn't it be much simpler in technical terms to just put a parametrized data block into that chip and load it from the printer firmware to do the calculation? Of course this has the drawback that it is only data and therefore it may not be as easily usable to sue competitors for alleged copying of code (which I think is the main reason they invented that scheme in the first place). All important parameters are known at the time of the design of the printer, only their values will really change with different printer cartridges.
