#82873 - Network Time Service
Hi Everyone,

There is an agency here in the U.S. called NIST (National Institute for Standards and Technology). They maintain, among other things, time standards. You've probably seen the clocks that set themselves via a radio signal. NIST transmits that signal.

NIST also provides something called Internet Time Service. It is a service wherein their servers will respond to querys, via the internet, with the current time. They provide a program that you can download which will run on your computer and use this service to keep your computer clock set. They also provide details for the various protocols their ITS uses.

So it occurs to me that some people here on the forum might be working on some embedded systems that are active on the internet and might want to incorporate this functionality into their design. If so, the link at NIST to start looking is

http://www.boulder.nist.gov/timefreq/...ce/its.htm

Or, if you want to download their Nistime utility for your computer, start by downloading this .pdf file (the instructions).

http://www.boulder.nist.gov/timefreq/...df/nts.pdf

Good luck, and Merry Christmas.
