One huge advantage of the 8051 architecture is its uniquity - it seems like everyone and his dog makes 8051 variants!
Thus you have not only 2nd sources but 10th, 11th, 12th, ... ad infinitum? And every single 8051 derivative shares exactly the same architecture & instruction set - so, once you have learned that, and obtained suitable tools, you are fully equipped to use any 8051 derivative!
