#83649 - Low cost controller for temperature

Hello ...

I am trying to design a very low cost temperature controller , basically ON / OFF with settable hysteresis to control the overshoot/undershoot.

I need to give some specs for it. It is meant for a furnace operation using a K/J type thermocouple. Would it be possible to get a band of about 3~4 Deg. over a temperature range of 600~800 deg, with this type of control?

Also has anyone come across any 8051 derivative which accepts the thermocouple input (mV) directly ? I googled and got a MSP430 derivative which does just that (MSP430F423) but no 8051 chip.

Would like to have some inputs from the forum members.

Thanks in anticipation
Thomas Fernando
