Strictly speaking, I don't think he made the PWB at home. I think he just assembled it at home (a feat not to be dismissed as trivial given the pitch of some of those parts).
He did not, according to the article. He skip by the fact that he declined the offer of a solder mask, which, in my opinion, was a mistake. PWBs are, at least in the US, way to cheap to attempt homemaking. Just picking at random from ads a dozen 2 layer WITH MASK for $10 each, 4 layer @ $30 each. ExpressPCB.com advertise "download free layout software and get 3 PCBs for $51. BTW, it is amazing that all the pWb manufacturers advertise pCbs. Erik |
