Don't feel you need fancy cad programs to do a circuit diagram - the English say "design it on the back of a fag packet" ( NOT US English by the way....) or, I often start with a beer mat ;-)

The point is that the diagram acts as a mental map of what you have and where you are going: you started with the maxim design, but its obviously missing chunks of information, which you have added, the Caps for the 232 chip, reservoir caps, supply lines, enable lines etc. But you have no WRITTEN record of it.
