From your description, it appears you delivered what the customer wanted. Is that accurate? If so, I don't think I see any conflict between what was expected vs. what was delivered. The implementation may not have been what you (the contractor) desired, but that is what happens in many cases.

I send you congratulations for keeping your head and meeting the schedule in the face of adverse circumstances.
