Readily available, at least in mumbai market.
This will reduce your workload as this has built-in metering engines to calculate parameters you require. It needs only SPI interface & energy reading is ready with reading a particular register in IC using this interface.
Data sheet provide sample circuits & there are few example projects available on net built around this IC.

you may go for AT89S52 which has SPI interface.
