I just made another PCB using Kepner-Trago (sp) principles (basically, what was different on the new PCB's!) with a view to trying some of the suggestions here. The major difference was that on the original I'd put the 16550 in a socket - which I hadn't on the failing boards. So, on the new board I used a socket, and I think you can probably guess the rest.
So I figure I must have popped the other UARTS by overheating them with my welding rod (oops, sorry, soldering iron). >>edit - but that still doesn't explain why the emulator worked. I'll update when I've tested a bit more..... Thanks all, Rob. |
