Hardware wise they might be similar - but architecturally - it's a bit like 68k Vs 'x86! I've converted a bit of assembler from 8051 to AVR and I wouldn't consider them similar - I just re-architect the code - the structure stays the same but the code changes along with passing methods etc. Our friend to accumulator disappears - sure we can rename a register for that! To me it's a bit like saying converting from 8051 to PIC is easy since Parallax made an assembler with 8051 like mnemonics. Moving 'c' code from 8051 to AVR is a lot easier! |
