As already mentioned, there are plenty of other chips that provide a very simple, straightforward microcontroller interface; some can connect direct to your MCU's UART pins, others provide a simple parallel interface. eg, the USBMOD2 module from FTDI can even be used to light some LEDs with nothing more than a single external capacitor: http://www.Antronics.co.uk/usbmod2 FTDI supply free PC drivers for their chips, and I think Cypress, TI, and SiLabs do, too. |
