#89684 - Why give up?

Why not give up fighting with sdcc.

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

If you want glossy manuals, technical support, and a sexy installer where you just click "Setup" and it all "just happens" by magic - then you are going to have to pay for it!
After all, this is how the likes of Red Hat manage to make money out of "Open Source."

On the other hand, if you just want "free" software, you must expect to have to put in a bit more effort. Possibly a lot more effort.

I've never used SDCC, so I can't say to what extent the above may or may not apply specifically to SDCC.
However, I do know that there are plenty of people on this forum who happily use SDCC.

I'm having a terrible time with sdcc it doen't understand basic registers

It is inconceivable that any compiler could have lasted any time at all with such a fault - so this must be down to something that you are doing wrong!

Have you included the appropriate header file for the specific 8051 derivative you are using?
Have you correctly set up SDCC to find the header file?

Even if you did switch to Keil, failure to observe the above would give similar results!
