If one took away the IDE part that deals with project builder and editor functions there would not be much DEBUGGER left!!

I do not see what you mean here. I use neither "project builder" (use commandline Keil) nor "editor" (use CodeWright)

One is really, in the long run, probably better off using the Cygnal/SiLabs debugger DLL that adapts the interface of the JTAG port debugging feature to the Keil uVision II environment.
Sounmds good, I'll hunt, but if you have a link to the how, I'd appreciate that. I have never used uVision (do all in .bat files) because it can not do the file manipulation required for my multiple builds.
