#91716 - TOP Programmers Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Guys, My apologies first for getting carried away and too commercial with my posting. I realise now how much like a plug for my site it looks. Anyway to try and answer some questions about these programmers;
1/ They are all USB programmers and use the USB connection for data AND power. They use the USB 5V and generate the VPP's with switch mode boost converters. In the earlier TOP2003 that is 2 x TL497's, 2 inductors and 2 resevoir caps. I would imagine the other models boast something similiar. 2/ The LSI chips have been conveniently "scrubbed" but I know that the USB chip on the TOP2003 and TOP48 is a Cypress EZ-USB (2131Q / 2131S / 2135S) family because that is an error message that you can get on a failed installation. Looking at the PCB traces one of the LSI looks like a 3 port peripheral device of some kind ( looks like 3 x 16 bit ). The other chips are latches and transistor arrays. 3/ The power requirement for the programmers is upto 500mA on the 48pin TOP48 and TOP2048 which is right on the design spec for the USB standard and some motherboards WON'T supply that standard, however the manufacturer supplies both of those programmers with a universal ( 100AC to 240AC ) psu which can be used if USB power problems exist. I find a powered usb hub usually does the trick anyway. 4/ There is also another thing to bear in mind the cheaper TOP2003 and TOP48 are NOT guaranteed XP compatible but in my experience they work with XP 95% of the time. The TOP2005 and TOP2048 ARE XP compatible and all models work with 98SE/ME/2000. 5/ The device list varies according to model and the TOP2048 currently lists over 2700 devices. The manufacturer updates the software on a regular basis usually every couple of weeks. Well I hope by explaining that little lot that I have made up for my previous transgression into commercialism. Any more questions that I can help you with, feel free to post and I will get round to answering them when I can. Thanks Guys and have a nice day ( or night as it is here ).!!!! |
