#92498 - Pro Vs Amateur
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Hi Joe,

Is it possible that this is a definitive characteristic distinguishing between pro and amateur?

In my opinion the line dividing a pro and amateur, in many instances is so thin, that it is almost invisible. Questions like this and the famed "C Vs Asm" are all context based and no generalizations are possible.

Most (all ?)Professional's start out as amateurs; have thier fundas clear; get opportunities to work on state of art technologies and equipments ; acquire knowledge fast a.k.a as "read data sheets & App. notes"; are good at documentation ; have a continuous inner loop that guides them to learn from mistakes ( of self & others )and never to repeat them; never feel shy to present a decent bill for thier services !

Here in India, by defenition all graduate engineers are Professionals. And anybody attempting an engineering solution, without a degree to support, is an Amateur. Simple isn't it ? Not sure how is it elsewhere....

Raghu
