#92843 - Further Explanation Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Russell,
Thanks again for the reply. The idea is that the 8051 signals one of 24 actuators down the line to fire. I am using these decoders (one 3-tp-8, one 4-to-16) to minimize the necessary port pins, as they were needed elsewhere. I understand your comment about the lack of a latch on the the '238, but then what is the enable for? If indeed the '238 acts as you say, I could certainly be in some trouble, as I had assumed (always a bad move) that this decoder functioned like the 4514B 4-to-16 decoder. Is there any reason I could not set the bits for the 3-to-8 via the 8051 port pins as desired, then enable the '238 by signalling it through another port pin of the 8051, causing it to select the desired output? I guess my question centers around the purpose of the enable on the '238.... Thanks again for your help! |
