Responding to: ???'s previous message
hi,

Unfortunatly, the apartment complex won't issue more than one, but we have 3 cars. Also the range on this thing is horrible!

Make things as simple as possible - just do sale 2 cars (=

Any advice? Links that might assist me?

I would use wireless communication. For example, bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 27MHz, or 8051 with built-in USB + external USB-bluetooth dongle. There are 8051-based devices which support these ways itself. Look at the link below:
http://www.designtools.co.nz/overview.htm
There are some derivatives which support wireless communication there.

From other side, these derivatives are very complex. It may happen that creating the own solution (for example, simple 8051 + 27MHz transceiver) will be much more cheap and easy.

Some links as well:
Broadcom 8051+bluetooth products, for example, their BCM2042

Jaalaa 8051+27MHz products, for example, their JA3214

Regards,
Oleg
